    About

This temporary unit is being built next to the permanent Limassol desalination plant at Episkopi, inside the British Bases area west of Limassol. It will add water to the Limassol supply system: the permanent plant's 40,000 m³ a day covers less than half of the area's summer demand.

The Water Development Department tendered it on 30 September 2025 as a five-year water supply contract, with options to extend it by five more years, to expand the unit to 20,000 m³ a day or to buy the plant. Five companies bid, and on 2 February 2026 the contract went to SYCHEM SA of Athens, which also runs the Kissonerga unit, for €29.8 million. It was signed for 10,000 m³ a day. Talks on raising this to 15,000 were still going on in September 2026, although official totals already count the higher figure.

First water was expected in September 2026 and then in October, while the pipeline connecting the unit to the network and an Electricity Authority substation were still being built.
